Have you been to the cinema yet to catch A Minecraft Movie? If not, you’re missing out on what has quickly turned into a global sensation. Just days after its release, this video game adaptation has blown past all projections and lit up the box office like an exploding Creeper. By its second weekend, the film continued to rake in big numbers, topping the charts not only in Germany but also across the United States.
In Germany alone, over 560,000 new viewers flocked to theaters during the film’s second weekend. That brings its total audience to more than 1.66 million just 11 days after its debut — securing it the number one spot in Germany’s yearly box office rankings. This means A Minecraft Movie has now dethroned Paddington in Peru, the third cinematic outing of the beloved marmalade-loving bear, which had previously held the top position with 1.44 million tickets sold. The new film, featuring stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa, is now the undisputed leader.
The story is just as impressive in the United States. The film grossed another $80.6 million in its second weekend, pushing its domestic total to nearly $281 million. This leap now puts A Minecraft Movie ahead of Captain America: Brave New World, which had been the biggest Hollywood release of 2025, inching toward the $200 million mark.
Globally, the numbers are staggering. A Minecraft Movie has already raked in $550.5 million across international markets. Yet, despite this massive success, it’s still unlikely to overtake China’s phenomenal box office hit Ne Zha 2, which has earned a jaw-dropping $2 billion in China alone — a film that German audiences can also catch in theaters right now.
And What About the Rest?
While A Minecraft Movie continues to dominate, the rest of Germany’s cinema offerings have struggled to break through. No other film managed to cross the 100,000-ticket threshold last weekend.
Leading the pack behind the blockbuster was the spy thriller The Amateur starring Rami Malek, which managed to sell about 95,000 tickets. Rounding out the top five were Snow White with roughly 45,000 tickets, A Working Man with around 42,500, and the family-friendly newcomer Moon the Panda, which also sold approximately 45,000 tickets.
For now, A Minecraft Movie remains firmly in control of the box office — pixel by pixel, it’s building a legacy few expected, but many are now witnessing firsthand.
