Exciting developments are emerging from the ongoing production of Avengers: Doomsday. Following last month’s headline-grabbing announcement that several veteran X-Men actors are joining the project — including Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden — a new set leak has surfaced, further fuelling speculation about the film’s heavy mutant involvement.
Recently, a drone-captured image believed to be from the film’s set began circulating widely online. The photo reveals a location strikingly similar to the iconic X-Mansion, also known as Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters — a central landmark in Fox’s X-Men universe. What adds to the intrigue is the presence of several small craters surrounding the building, suggesting a fierce battle may have taken place there.
The leak immediately ignited a wave of theories among fans. Many now believe this scene could serve as the film’s opening sequence, showcasing a massive clash between the X-Men and the infamous Doctor Doom. Some theories even propose that the scene could end in tragedy for the mutants, offering Marvel Studios a way to portray the overwhelming threat posed by Doom right from the start.
If this theory holds true, it would mirror how Avengers: Infinity War introduced Thanos — with a chilling opening in which he effortlessly defeats the Hulk. That moment was crucial in establishing the villain’s dominance early in the film. It appears Marvel may be looking to replicate that impactful formula.
A Reddit user going by the name Nethias25 even speculated, “Looks like we’re getting a massacre of the original X-Men as the cold open for this film. Everyone’s hyped to see these legendary actors return, but they might all be wiped out before the title card even hits.”
Of course, until the movie officially premieres, all of this remains unconfirmed speculation. Still, with its star-studded cast and hints of a narrative leading toward an epic showdown, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Marvel releases in recent years.
Will the X-Men truly be the first to fall to Doom’s wrath? Fans will have to wait for the theatrical release to find out.
